Dr. Smyth is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who specializes in anxiety and mood disorders, including treatment-resistant depression. He completed his undergraduate degrees in Neuroscience and the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. After receiving his medical degree from Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Smyth completed his residency training in Psychiatry at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Institute, where he served as Chief Resident for Psychotherapy and maintained dual enrollment in the Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Clinician Educator Concentrations. While at UCLA, Dr. Smyth had the opportunity to receive advanced training in treatment-resistant mood disorders as a resident in the UCLA Mood Disorders Clinic.
In addition to pharmacotherapy and neuromodulation, Dr. Smyth has a special interest in psychotherapy and has completed additional training at the Los Angeles Institute & Society for Psychoanalytic Studies. He appreciates the value of integrative and psychological treatments in effective mental health care and aims to equip his patients with the tools to implement effective behavioral changes and achieve meaningful life goals.
